Bun Frenzy and Bun "Sock" Tutorial ♥

I've been sporting buns here and there all month long. It's such a wonderful classic style that can be so easily funked up and edgy or sweet and demure (that and it makes me feel a little Parisienne every time I've got my bun on).

I stumbled upon this little tutorial by Liz on how to do the "perfect (full) bun." I've been trying it out for the past couple days and I have to say it really works! I have really thick hair which seems like my buns would be large and voluminous and messy, but some days I really could use an extra oomph!
This little sock idea really adds that extra oomph for me and it helps my bun stay in place (without hairspray) all day long

Once you've got your bun in place, it's really easy to make it messy.
Don't forget ladies, bobby pins are your best friends

Handmade ♥

I've been on a handmaking frenzy lately...

Finally finished my little toque ♥
It's the coziest blend of alpaca, merino, silk, mohair, camel hair and cashmere.

I did a little bit of fixing up with my jewelry designs and switched all the chains from gold plated to gold filled as well as add on a little tag with L stamped onto it.
This is my favorite design from my entire collection. I've been trying to get my hands on more of that beautiful large Agate stone, which has definitely been a challenge.

I wish I had more time to work on knitting and jewelry making. The feeling of completing a beautiful project is incredible and you truly treasure that piece so much more.

SKN Clinic ♥

I recently had my first treatment at SKN Clinic and I have to say - I am so happy with how my skin feels. I've struggled with acne, pimples, and uneven skin texture for years and years (yes blackheads and large pores, I'm looking at you) and I am so surprised that after just one treatment at SKN, my skin is visibly smoother and healthier looking (I had strangers on the bus ask me about my skin - it has just been glowing)!

I hesitated for months to go to SKN. For a starving student, it's definitely a luxury and also I've tried many different things for my skin so I wasn't sure if going to SKN would make any difference. I'm so glad it did

I was booked in for a consultation and then a customized treatment (it would've been etiher a chemical peel or a medi facial). My medical esthetician was Megan. She was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly and open to hearing what I had to say. I really loved how she did not pressure me into buying any of their products (saying that she hates wasting product that you already have just to switch over to a line you're pressured to buy) and also how she gave me simple tips and suggestions on how to keep my skin healthy and what makeup products were better for my skin. Despite being located in Yaletown, I really felt at home in the cozy little clinic.

After a short talk about my skin goals and what I would be opened to trying, she decided the best option for my skin was the Detox Peel. The entire process took less than 30 minutes and was not painful at all (at times it was very tingly as though I had smeared some pepper or mint on my skin, but it was bearable - Megan even gave me a mini fan to fan myself if the tingling sensation became too intense). It ended with a very soothing mask and application of some products from their line Osmosis.

Downtime is very minimal. My skin felt a little bit tight that night and the day after and it flaked a little bit, but nothing too crazy (nobody even noticed my skin was slightly flaky and dry). I ended up purchasing the Osmosis Clarify Serum and Megan also gave me a few samples of the Osmosis Quench Moisturizer that she used on me and The Purify Cleanser. I will probably pick up the Quench Moisturizer on my next visit - my skin seems to be really happy with it (it's not the most amazing smelling product though)! The Cleanser is just okay for me, I still love my Skoah Kleansing Lotion more so I'll be sticking to that.

I'll be coming in for treatments on a monthly basis (thank goodness for my recent raise). For my next treatment, Megan suggested their Vitamin A Infusion Peel - which is one of their more well known and popular treatments - I'll probably begin a series of the Vitamin A Infusion Peel to help replenish and renew my skin.

Other than Chemical Peels and Medi Facials, SKN also offers Cosmetic Acupuncture and Medical Skin Needling (really interesting, but something I probably will not be trying), Photo Rejuvenation, Laser Hair Removal and many other treatments (all this information can be found on their website). Appointments can be made through email or by phone. They're quiet busy and time slots fill up quickly so it's definitely wise to book ahead. They also have a Youtube Channel where you can have a look at their treatments.

I'm super excited for my next visit to SKN in April! My skin hasn't felt this good in years - despite the treatments being a tad expensive, it's worth it. Thank you SKN and Megan

I'll be blogging about my next visit to SKN and how my skin is after my Vitamin A Peel.

Have any of you tried SKN? ♥

Yarn Splurge ♥

So I recently went on a little yarn splurge...and it finally arrived in the mail today!

I ordered a number of clearance skeins from Elann (they still have some great colors for about $4 per skein of 50gram from their Peruvian Sierra Aran collection - these are great for making toques, mittens, scarves and even sweaters it's a super comfy blend of wool and alpaca ♥). Shipping was extremely fast. I placed the order on Tuesday night, today is Thursday of the same week and it's already here - a nice big box plopped in front of my door! I also picked up a few skeins of Cascade Yarn (one of my favorites - I love their Eco+ line, you get a lot of yarn, it's 100% peruvian wool and it's nice and chunky) and Addi Turbo needles (on the more expensive side, but you have a lifetime warranty and once you use these you'll never go back to any other needles) from Three Bags Full. Putting me into a yarn shop or letting me browse yarn online is extremely dangerous (I can't tell you exactly how much I spent or my boyfriend might tear me apart - or even worse take my needles away!)

I've been working on a toque from Purl Bee. It's called the Simple Pleasures Hat. I'm close to halfway done. I was a bit intimidated at first (I've just been making a ton of scarves because it's so easy) - I'm surprised at how easy it is to get started on the little toque.

Hope all you lovelies are having a good few last days of the week!

Etsy Picks Of The Month

The Rorschach Silk Scarf $128
One of my absolute favorites from Scout and Catalogue's Spring and Summer collection. I love the more ombre purple tone of this scarf and the wild skull, butterfly and fern prints splattered all around.

Brazilian Amethyst Agate with Quarts Necklace $78
I just discovered this amazing Etsy shop today while browsing for some druzy post earrings. Her oversized gem-filled cuffs are gorgeous and her necklaces are beautiful - stunningly in your face. This necklace one is one of my favorites (I'll be purchasing it shortly).

Silver Post Earrings With Sparkles $47
I love how these are so simple for every day wear with a pinch of sparkle.

Glorianne Overnight Travel Bag $475
This bag is beautifully unique and different and impeccable made as all Leonie Saliba leather goods are. Her latest collection for 2012 is called "Dreaming Of You, London" something I've been drooling over...

Cappucino Asymmetric Muse Top $85
Comfortable and chic is what the entire Muse clothing line stands behind. Each piece symbolizes effortless sexy and oh so comfy.

Ctrl, Alt, Del Pillow Set $55
As seen on Two And A Half Men, these pillows make such a fun (and sweetly nerdy) addition to any room.

I love Etsy

The New Black - Ombré Nails For Spring!

Remember how I was madly obssessed with The New Black's Ombre Nail sets? Well guess what - Vincent Park just got a shipment in today of the Spring colors! I just happened to step into the store to have a look at what's new and lo and behold there the adorable little sets were.
This shipment round brings in 3 new color sets Haze (purple), Waves (a gorgeous green to blue) and Walrus (a mix of browns to nudes).

I ended up picking up Walrus and Waves. I have yet to try them out on my nails, but I have a feeling I might be back in for the Haze sometime soon! These Nail Polish sets practically flew out the door last time Vincent Park had them in stock, so if you want them, better make your way down and get them fast (not to mention there's a good 50% off sale rack at Vincent Park topped off with many super gorgeous Spring Arrivals from Dolce Vita, Brandy and Melville and lots more).

You can also pick these guys up on the Nordstrom website - BUT I don't see any of the Spring colors available (so Vincent Park's the way to go)!

$24 per set of 5 mini bottles

Alexander Wang Emile Tote Bag ♥

I am absolutely ecstatic to be able to add this gorgeous Alexander Wang Emile Tote to my (small) handbag collection. I love how this bag is so verstaile. It can be held as a satchel or turned into a crossbody bag.

The size is perfect for me as I love large and oversized bag (plus it fits all my yarn for on the go knitting). Did I mention it looks oh so chic against a black outfit (which is the most prominent color in my closet)? The leather and palladium hardware are gorgeous and gives the bag such a chic edgy look, while the grey felt makes the bag less intimidating. I love it so much I just can't stop looking at it
